WHAT WE ARE:
The Northern New Jersey Grotto was established in 1952 and is a chapter of the National Speleological Society. The Grotto has more than a hundred members who share an interest in cave exploration.

WHO WE ARE:
We're engineers & computer programmers, authors, contractors & developers, mechanics, homemakers, moms and dads, ex's & singles, firemen, lawyers, college students, surveyors and chiropractors. We're also rock climbers, mountain bikers, scuba divers, backpackers, sailors, mountain climbers and airplane pilots.

WHAT WE DO:
We regularly explore caves in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. some of our members make trips to the south and west, and even as far as Puerto Rico, Ukraine and China.

WHO CAN JOIN:
Newcomers should be in good physical condition-it helps to have some experience with other outdoor sports such as hiking, camping, climbing or skiing, but it's not absolutely necessary. Helmets and lights for first-time cavers can be borrowed from the Grotto Quartermaster. Individual members must be over 18 years of age, although families are welcome to join. We encourage people to come to one of our meetings which are held the second Tuesday of the month.
